How to play
- 1You are dealt a four letter word. The goal is always the same word: POOP.
- 2Change one letter to make a new word. TUNE becomes TONE, then TONE becomes BONE.
- 3Every rung has to be a real four letter word. You cannot pass through nonsense.
- 4Keep going until you land on POOP. The clock starts on your first word, not when the page loads.
- 5Fewest moves is the shortest ladder of everyday words for your word. Matching it is a perfect run.

How do you play Poople?
You are given a four letter word and you change one letter at a time until you reach POOP. Every step has to be a real four letter word, so TUNE can become TONE but not TOOP. A short ladder might run SOAP, SOUP, SOUR, POUR, POOR, POOP. There is nothing to learn beyond that: if you can change one letter and still have a word, you can play.
How is Poople Unlimited different from the daily Poople game?
The daily game deals one word for everyone and stops there. Here a new word comes whenever you press New word, and three things come with it: a par worked out before you start, a clock that runs from your first accepted word, and a Give up that lays the shortest ladder under yours. Free, and nothing to install.
Is every Poople puzzle actually solvable?
Yes, and by construction rather than by luck. The word list is limited to the 3,051 four letter words that can reach POOP by single letter changes, so a word that could strand you is never dealt and can never be typed. Every start word was checked for a path before shipping.
What does fewest moves mean in Poople?
Fewest moves is the shortest ladder of everyday words between your word and POOP, worked out before you start. Starts are dealt between 4 and 6 moves away. Finishing in that many is the best a run can be. The list also accepts rarer words, so now and then one of those beats the number.
How does the timer work?
The clock starts on your first accepted word, not when the page loads, so reading the rules costs you nothing. It stops the moment you land on the goal. Your fastest time and your fewest steps are kept on your own device and shown in the bar above the ladder.
What if I get stuck?
Undo takes back your last word. Reset clears the ladder and puts you back on the same start word with the clock at zero. Give up shows one shortest way down, greyed in under what you had. New word deals a fresh start whenever you want one.
