Krillion Unlimited

Sink deeper with rarer answers: one open prompt, one answer, and the whole ocean under you. The obvious answer barely moves you; the obscure one takes you to the trench floor. The Krillion game, with no daily dive to wait for.

How the Krillion game works

The rules, the tiers, and the questions people ask.

How to play

  1. 1A prompt appears and a 15-second clock starts. Type one answer.
  2. 2The obvious answer is worth almost nothing. The obscure one is worth everything.
  3. 3Every point sinks you 10 metres. 700 points is 7,000m: the trench floor, and a perfect dive.
  4. 4A wrong answer is refused, not punished. It costs you the seconds it took.
  5. 5Endless mode keeps dealing prompts past the trench, through 138 hand-drawn zones, until your 3 tanks of air run out.

Questions

What is the Krillion game?

Krillion is a free browser game about giving the rarest correct answer. You get 7 open prompts, 15 seconds each, and one answer per prompt. Everybody can answer "Name a city in California" - the game is about whether you say Los Angeles or Tehachapi. Rare answers sink you deeper into the ocean, and the depth is your score.

How is Krillion Unlimited different from the daily Krillion game?

Krillion Unlimited takes the daily game's one dive and stops rationing it. The original deals 7 prompts once a day and ends; here a refresh deals 7 completely new ones from a bank of thousands, as often as you like. Endless mode goes further and deals them one at a time forever, on 3 tanks of air, past the trench floor and down through 138 zones to 250km.

How is Krillion scored?

Every accepted answer lands in one of six tiers, worth 10, 15, 30, 60, 85 and 100 points: plankton, too clever, schooler, rare, deep cut, one in a krillion. Each point sinks you 10 metres, so a perfect 700-point dive puts you at 7,000m, on the trench floor. A refused answer scores nothing and costs only the time you spent on it.

What do Plankton, Too Clever, Schooler, Rare, Deep Cut and One in a Krillion mean?

They are the six tiers an accepted answer can land in, best last, and they are graded by how many other people would have said the same thing. Plankton is the answer everyone gives and moves you 100 metres. One in a Krillion is the answer nobody else reached and moves you 1,000. The tier, not the clock, is the whole score.

What is the Too Clever tier?

It is the trap, and it is the point of the game. Too Clever sits between the obvious answer and a genuinely good one, and it holds the pick that FEELS like a find: the famous second thought that a few thousand other players also reached for. Naming a city in California, Los Angeles is obvious and Bakersfield is Too Clever. Going one step past the first answer is not going far enough.

How do you get a good score in the Krillion game?

Go specific, then go sideways. The answer that feels clever to you probably feels clever to a few thousand other people, so the points live in the corner cases: the smallest valid example, the one from a country nobody thinks of, the technically-correct edge of the category. Answering fast is worth nothing on its own - the clock only decides whether you answer at all.

Is there a daily limit in Krillion?

No. The original is one dive a day; this one is not. Refresh and Krillion deals a completely new set of 7 prompts from a bank of thousands, as often as you like, and Endless mode never stops dealing them at all.

What is Endless mode in the Krillion game?

One prompt at a time, forever, with 3 tanks of air. A miss costs a tank; a one-in-a-krillion answer gives one back. The prompts get harder the deeper you are, and below the real trench the ocean keeps going through 138 hand-written zones - drowned cities, vent fields, a glass orchard, a machine nobody built a room for - down to a shrine at 250km. A hundred prompts will not get you there.

How are the answers checked?

Every prompt has an answer bank built in advance, holding a few hundred valid answers graded by how many people would give them, so almost every answer is judged instantly and identically for everyone. An answer nobody predicted is checked once, then remembered - so the second player to think of it gets the same verdict as the first. Nothing is scored by how long you took.

Is the Krillion game free, and how often can I play?

Krillion Unlimited is free, and you can play as often as you like. There is no sign-up, no app and no daily cap: refresh and it deals 7 more prompts. It runs in the browser, so it plays the same on a phone as on a laptop.

How deep does the ocean actually go in Krillion?

The first 11,000 metres are real: the kelp line, the point sunlight stops, the Titanic at 3,800m, anglerfish territory, the hadal zone named for Hades, and Challenger Deep at 10,935m. Past that the map is invented and hand-drawn, 138 zones in all, ending at 250km. Nothing about it is procedurally generated - somebody wrote every one.
