How to play
- 1Two silhouettes stand side by side on a blueprint. The one on the left is the reference, with its real size written over it.
- 2Drag the other one's corner, or slide along the ruler under the board, until it is the size you believe it really is.
- 3Press Lock it in. The shape grows or shrinks to its true size, with a dashed outline left where you guessed.
- 4Within 5% of the true size is full marks. 4 times too big or too small scores nothing.

Size It Up is a size comparison game about how big things really are. You get the silhouette of something, a bus, a blue whale, Texas, beside a reference whose size you know, and you make the silhouette as big as you think it really is. The game then measures your guess against the real figure. Here there is no daily limit.

How is Size It Up Unlimited different from the daily game?
The daily game deals one set of five comparisons a day, and then you wait for tomorrow. Size It Up Unlimited is Daily's own version, with its own silhouettes, sizes and scoring. Every run deals 5 new pairs from 1,932 things, as often as you like, with places, animals, dinosaurs, vehicles, buildings and planets all in one mix.
How is a guess scored?
By how far off you are as a factor, not a difference, so twice too big and half the size cost the same. Within 5% of the true size is a perfect 100, and 4 times off in either direction is 0. Later rounds are harder and worth more, ×1, ×1, ×2, ×3 and ×3, for 1,000 in a perfect run.
Is it free, and is there anything to download?
Free, with nothing to install and no account. Size It Up Unlimited runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, so there is no app to find in a store.
Why is it called Size It Up?
To size something up is to look it over and judge it, and taken literally, to judge how big it is by eye. The game holds you to the literal meaning: you size up a silhouette beside a reference, lock in your judgment, and see how far off your eye was.
Where do the sizes come from?
Every size is a published figure: a typical adult for an animal, the documented figure for a named landmark or vehicle, and the measured area for a country, state or lake. Each one was estimated twice, independently, and dropped if the two disagreed. The silhouettes are public-domain drawings and our own illustrations, and the places are drawn from Natural Earth map data.
How do you get better at guessing the size of things?
Anchor on the reference, not the picture. Ask how many references would fit along the thing, then check the other direction. People tend to squash the extremes, guessing the very large too small and the very small too big, so when a guess already feels huge for a whale or tiny for a beetle, push it further.
What counts as a good score?
A run is out of 1,000. Keeping every guess within half again of the real size puts you past half of that, and a run over 800 means you were within about 15% on nearly every round. Your best run is kept on your own device.
