How to play
- 1Read the 7x7 waffle: each of its four full rows and four full columns must hold 1 to 7 once.
- 2Use the circles in the holes. Each is the sum of the two tiles it points at; green tiles are already home and grey tiles are not.
- 3Work out where the greys belong by combining the clue sums with the digits each row and column still needs.
- 4Swap two grey tiles by dragging one onto the other. You have 25 swaps; 15 earns all 5 stars, and every two extra swaps cost one.

How do you solve a Number Waffle puzzle?
Number Waffle is a number puzzle game on a 7x7 grid with nine holes and 40 shuffled digit tiles. Swap tiles two at a time until every full row and column holds 1 to 7 exactly once, and every circle clue adds up. Start with the lines that have the most green tiles, then use their missing digits to narrow down the greys.
What do the green and grey tiles mean in Number Waffle?
Green means that digit is already in a cell where it belongs, so it stays put. Grey means the cell needs a different digit, which immediately rules out the number now sitting there. A row with two grey tiles, for example, is missing two digits; each grey tells you which of those two it cannot be.
How do the sum clues work in Number Waffle?
Each circle sits in a hole and points at two of the tiles beside it; its number is what those two tiles add up to in the solution. The extremes give the most away: a 3 can only be 1 and 2, a 13 only 6 and 7. Put a clue together with what a row or column is still missing and most cells have one digit left.
Does every Number Waffle puzzle have one solution and a best route?
Yes. Before a waffle ships, a solver checks that the greens, the greys, the rows and columns and the clues allow exactly one grid, and that it can be worked out by reasoning alone, with no guessing. It also proves that 15 swaps is the fewest the waffle needs, so 25 always leave room.
How many swaps do you get, and how are Number Waffle stars scored?
By the swaps you have left when the last tile turns green. Solve in 15, the fewest any waffle needs, and you get 5 stars; every two extra swaps cost one. Running out of swaps ends the puzzle and shows the solution.
